Pentax News - 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR lens

Yesterday Pentax announced a new telephoto prime lens - the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm F2.8 WR. It's weather resistant and focuses as close as 5 inches. Looks pretty sweet for outdoor photographers!

Nice! I had the previous 100mm 2.8 macro and it was superb!

I have the original D-FA 100mm f2.8 Macro on which this new WR version is based, and it is a great lens- light, sharp, robust, and nice bokeh. Here's sample frame. The new version is a very desirable lens, indeed! :)

Thanks, Pete! This Rhodo bush will bloom again very soon. It's at least 12 feet tall, with at least 100 blooms- an awesome sight.

I have the old manual f/4 100mm macro that was discontinued in 1984. I love this lens and would love the f/2.8 WR version even more. Maybe once I get a K5 that might make a nice addition to the collection!
For actual macro shooting, I'd never need f/2.8 because the DOF would be so narrow very little would be likely to be in focus. But for portraits I imagine it would be really nice wide open.
Here's a shot I took on Sunday with my 100mm f/4 macro at about f/16.
