Clunking- Worry or Not to Worry

I have had a Pentax K10 for about 12 months. On start up I have started to notice a rather pronounced clunking noise. Is this just the normal start up process, which I have not noticed until now, or is it an ominous sign of problems to come? (The camera still works fine and the pics turn out as good as ever.)

It is entirely normal and absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, it is the camera "shaking" the sensor to dislodge any dust. The K10D does this at start-up. I admit the noise can be a little disconcerting, but it works!

    Mike,

I appreciate your response. It is good to know that the K10 is not falling apart.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas.

Re: Clunking- Worry or Not to Worry

You CAN turn it off if you want .. and you will get no clunking. Test it like that if you want just to reassure yourself.

This is from a pentax forum:

"While playing with the menu of my new K10D on Thursday night, I set the dust reduction setting to the "power on" position. Made a few other changes then shut the camera off, watched a little TV and went to bed.

Yesterday, during a lull at work, I took my K10D out of the bag and turned it on. "What's that vibration and horrible noise?", I said to myself. Turned it off and on several time and each time it made the same noise and had the same vibration.

Well, I thought something had gone terribly wrong with my beautiful new camera so I called Pentax tech support and explained the problem. The techie was very nice when the question was asked "did you just reset the dust removal to operate each time the camera is powered up?".

I said "Yes", thanked them and hung up the phone.

Well "Duh-Huh", was I ever embarrased."

    Cheers
