    extended warranty

Boy am I glad I spent the extra $100 on mine.

My E510 was a great camera but it has been in the shop more times than anyone would've expected. First trip in was for a fried mother board ... the camera simply would not power up. Second time was for a broken pin in the memory card slot (broken during normal use) and when they fixed that problem they returned it to me with the TTL display not working. So yesterday I went back to the store fully expecting a hassle and 20 min later walked out with a brand new E520 to replace my E510. They even exchanged my 14 - 45 with the new version of the lens.. the 14 - 42.... damnit I lost 3 mm of focal length lol.

Anyway .. I am now the proud owner of an E520. Here's hoping ym E500 falls apart before October and I get it upgraded to the E520 as well lol.

    Re: extended warranty

I like it better than the 510 already and have not found anything that would make me consider it a down grade... the sensor is better in lower light... face detection is a nice bonus.... and the best part is my L-grip from the 510 fits it =)

    But it's only my opinion.

Also the contrast detect autofocus is a good feature, however it only works with a limited amount of lenses, and isnt a significant improvement from what I heard.

IMHO I would sell the 520 [and if you can destroy the E-500 the replacement of that camera] and get an E-30, or better yet, an E-3.

I took my E3 out in the rain today, love it.

edit: I know I'm coming off as a bit of a snob, but that's just my 2c. J seems to be a far more talented photographer than myself, so he probably knows better anyway.

Wireless flash control is a BIG improvement from the 510 to 520. I didn't think I'd ever shoot flash, but I use it a lot (on my E3)

Oh yeah, if you are still thinking of selling your grip, shoot me a pm.

Ok, I'll decide whether I'm keeping it or not after I sell my extra 12-60 and see how much I get for it.

    Re: extended warranty

Where did you get your 510/520 and the extended warranty from? I have horrendous luck with electronics and buying a camera without an extended warranty or service plan is something that makes me pretty nervous. I take care of my toys, but the list of ones that have broken or died on me goes on and on.

    Re: extended warranty

I bought it at a local store called Henry's. They sell online as well but their pricing is out of line with B&H and Adorama. I have no idea what their pricing is like in US dollars
however as I never look at that side of their website. They also offer the "Help Warranty" on their online purchases.

    Wink Re: extended warranty

Thanks for the info. I wish there was a place around here like that, but the Wolf camera store closed, and the staff at the locally owned place are less than polite. I'm left with Bestbuy, HH Gregg and similar places. I may need to take a road trip to Atlanta or Nashville.

    Re: extended warranty

Look on line at the SquareTrade warranty. I purchased my extended warranty for the camera through them and it was very inexpensive. They offer warrantees for store bought items at a lower rate then what the store will sell you. They also offer a 5 day turn around policy or they replce it for free. Something along those lines.

Squaretrade for 3 years on my e510 cost me $39.99.
They sent me a coupon for 50% off my next warranty.
My 70-300 Oly lens warranty, 3yrs for $25.00

    How can you beat it?
