Photos I took with the new 70-300mm Oly
    Hi all,
I just wanted to upload some of the pics that I finally took with the new Oly. 70-300mm.
I think it is a pretty good lens. The shots were better than what I could do with the stock 14-42mm.
See them in my gallery please!! Make sure you click on each one to get the full effect. These are untouched iin the photo program as well !!

Very nice! The Zuiko 70-300mm lens is one of my favorite things about the Olympus DSLR system. It's so small and so powerful. I love it when I'm on the bike or skis and need a lot of reach in a lightweight kit. It just can't be beat for that. I have found it's limits, though. Shooting wide open at full zoom is a disappointment. But for the size and price I think it's something I can live with.

Sorry you didn't get any comments. A better strategy would be to post a few here along with a link to your gallery. You can upload them from here when you post and then go to the gallery and edit your images there so they have descriptions. You can even replace the originals you uploaded from the forum with larger versions.

Please post a review for your 70-300mm lens? Right now there are onnly two user reviews for it. Here's a link to that review page:

    Thanks for sharing!

Well I don't really know very much yet, but I will say that I enjoyed them. I especially enjoyed the one with two bees (one in the foreground as well as on the flower in the back ground).

I have a love hate relationship with the 70-300mm lens. Sometimes I feel a bit disappointed in the sharpness of the images. This has been discussed before - doesn't perform well in low light, zoomed all the way with the aperture wide open gives poor results, autofocus can be slow or inaccuarte. But other times if I nail it just right the image quality can be pretty good and the reach fantastic.

This shot was taken at 300mm, f/7.1, 1/640, ISO 100, in early morning light with the sun behind the subject. It is also pretty tightly cropped. Even at a fairly large size I think the image still holds up.

This lens won't work miracles but with some experience and realistic expectations I think it can capture some shots that wouldn't be possible with less reach.

Good capture of the pony. Is that Assateague Island?

I see knowing the limitations and strengths of our equipment as a major step in becoming a photographer.

Yes, that's Assateague from this year's pony penning.

Good point about knowing our equipment better. I also like to remember that cameras don't take photographs, photographers do.

Very nice pictures. My only problem with the 70-300mm is the flaky focusing. There are times I have to shut off my E3 and restart it to get the lens to focus. But when it works it takes great pictures.
