    Olympus E-520 kit lense questions

Excuse my basic questions on DSLR lenses
I think I am buying an E-520 within 2 weeks
What kind of pictures is the 14-42 lense good. ie Portrats Scenery Landscape etc.
What kind of pictures is the 40-150 lense good for ie Scenery Landscape Wildlife etc.
The cost of adding a 41-150 lense is only $100.00. I can live with a $ 100.00 lense if I seldom use it.

Re: Olympus E-520 kit lense questions

The 14-42 is a very nice len. You will use it as your walking arund lens as some of us call it. You called it potriats, landscape, scenery, chasing your kids around lens. The 40-150 zooms out futher for more distant subjects, ballgames, birds ect. But the 40-150 also makes for a nice portriat lens as well. A good combination.

Re: Olympus E-520 kit lense questions

    Thankyou fpr thr reply Greg.
If the 40-150 lense makes a nice portrait len, this then will me my mostly used lense.
10 % of my shooting is macros and the remainder is portraits to scenery and wildlife.
I am going to check out the camera this week.
I am going on holidays in 4 weeks ( Vancouver Island )
so I better know how to use it.
Do you know if it is easy to get the hang of the E-520 ??

I'm not so sure either kit will do macros and yes the 520 is pretty easy to learn. Feel free to post as many questions as you like if you get stuck. I always download the manual before a new camera arrives. I have an EP-1 due in on wed. and have already been studying.

Re: Olympus E-520 kit lense questions

As Greg said the 14-42 is an "all around" glass it will do decent macros...not killer but for the price it is no doubt a very nice kit lens.
The 40-150 I find it more suitable for Portraits but thats me.
I might suggest not to buy the 40-150 f4.0 that comes as part of the kit, instead buy second hand the older version...the 40-150 f3.5 a tad faster, a tad cheaper, a tad bigger, a tad better all around.
