Old 50-200mm at the feeder this morning...

Just a couple of quick snap shots to test a new to me old version 50-200mm lens :)

Shot through a dirty window on a cloudy late morning, still.....

Hi Don! Maybe you could help me decide witch of those two should i go for since you have both of those lenses :

ZD 50-200mm non SWD (2 yrs old) or ZD 70-300mm.....What do you think?????

Depends on what you are looking for and how deep your pockets are :)

For image quality, the 50-200 wins hands down, for reach it's the 70-300.

You could also get the EC 14 to extend the range of the 50-200 and supposedly have better image quality than the 70-300 at the long end.

Don't forget to consider size, the 50-200 is considerably larger than the 70-300.

It's the weirdest feeling mounting the lens to the tripod instead of the camera :)

I haven't taken the 50-200 on a walk about very often but I can tell you it takes better pictures on a tripod, he, he...

the 50-200 is one of the best lenses around. the 70-300 is pretty neat because of the reach and size. i almost sold my 50-200 because i was going to get a 70-300 for super cheap and then use the extra cash towards a fisheye.
well, the other day i was out shooting some portrait shots with a friend of mine. i was using my 14-54 at first, then i switched to my 50-200. then i thanked the gods for not bringing me a buyer as it reminded me just how great it is. the lens is amazing. the only way i'd ever get rid of it is if i were to be applying it towards a 35-100 purchase.

one of my friends got the 70-300 with his e520 kit. like most people say...it's really a cool lens and works great outside in the sun. for me, it's very slow to focus and if it misses and has to go through its whole range, forget about it. ive seen a lot of nice pics taken with it. it's deffinitly capable given the right conditions.

ps. my only gripe with my 50-200 is that its not f/2.8 all the way through. nighttime sports are hard enough to catch at f/2.8, f/3.5 makes it near impossible.

Sorry for late response....cpu problems...! But i thank you both very much for your answers, very helpful. So i think i'm gonna go for 50-200mm, that's the one i had in mine in the first place. But how about the AF speed on a e520, fast enough for maybe sports action...??? And for the sharpness....very good or average good...???
