    No Need for IS?

Does this really work? If not, it looks like it still may be useful to some extent even with an IS camera?

That is pretty cool. And it will work. But it doesn't do the same thing, nor is it a replacement for actual mechanical image stabilization. What if you aren't standing? What if you're up in a tree? What if you're panning?

Someone try this with IS turned on as well. Looks like you could take some nice, low light tripodless pics

What would I be doing up in a tree?

It's not a suitable replacement for a tripod either.

In some situations (group photos and some landscape come to mind) this thing will work great.

If the camera base is not parallel to the ground or your not shooting from standing eye level, forget about it.

Might be something worthwhile to have stashed in the camera bag though.

I am sure it helps, but with IS I can shoot 1/10 sec one handed. I can also use the IS on flower shots. So there is no subsitute for the real thing. But I still use a tripod from time to time. Just not as much as I use to.

isnt that pretty much the same idea as using your neck strap around your elbow?

the IS though is sooo great for low light use. i havent gotten the 70-300 lens yet, but im sure it's going to make a great difference there when zoomed way in with the aperture closed down some.

i played with a 70-300mm the other day. at 300mm handheld was very difficult even with IS, though this was indoors.

I have real good luck with the built in flash. If you play with the exposure compensation it does very well.

i really dont like the flash, what it does to colors and details and it makes shadows. maybe when i get the FL36 and do bounce flash i think i will like it more

also now that i have the 12-60, the built in flash is pretty useless because of the size of the lens
