Manual Zuiko 90mm f2 shots for Gary

I haven't many, but here are some examples of this extraordinary lens.

    on the E-300

    on the E-30

With spring approaching, I'll be using this baby more than I have been. It weighs more than the camera I think, but it's worth hauling around.

I'm not Gary but I cheated and looked anyway. Nice. Makes me wonder if I can get that out of my Tamron 90.

Those are very good. Is the lens a fixed F/2? I was curious about that and what kind of DOF it had. But like I stated before when you get into Macro you are in a area I don't go much. I bet at 90mm you don't have to get that close to the subject either.

It stops down to f22, which is useful when you want more than a razor's edge of focus. On the E bodies it's dof is even narrower than it was on the film bodies. I've experimented with a 25mm extension tube and it's crazy.

I did for the E-30, but not for anything else so far.

Thanks. It truly is stupendously sharp. Back in the 80s when I was acquiring my first pieces of Olympus equipment I lusted after one of these, but couldn't afford it. We didn't actually have one in the store, but we did have the 105mm Nikkor which I imagined was similar. 20 years later or so I finally bought one used. It has since doubled in value, but I'm not parting with it. It's one piece of kit that will stay even if everything else goes.

Found these on some firewood today. Reprieved them long enough to take a few photos -
    90mm @ about f11

each cluster is about 1/2 inch across.

For me Zuiko lenses take a lot of beating, by any manefacturer. These are impressive.

Here's one with a 25mm extension tube attached - the flower itself is about 1 1/2 inches high and about 1/4 of an inch wide -

I don't do a lot of post processing, but I do use Lightroom. usually I'm adjusting contrast & sharpness for the web. some color correction too since sometimes digital isn't good at rendering purple and violet shades. All around the OM 90mm is a fantastic lens and as I said, it's the last lens I'd part with. Here's a recent shot with it nearly wide open and pretty much SOOC -

this one really shows how crisp this lens is (it's two fern fronds unfurling - say that 10 times fast!) -

I have never worked with the 35-100, but I've seen photos done with it and it looks amazing.

Those are very sharp for an older lens.

Wow. I just checked KEH and some of the prices for the OM glass is pretty high. The 50 f/2 macro is a expensive as the digital AF one. That's amazing. The 90mm is almost $800.00.

yeah, they keep fluctuating, I've seen the 90 around $1000 before. not making any more of them and they're so great that the demand is there. Considering that you wouldn't use AF when doing macro anyway, it makes sense.
