I got my 50mm!

I didn't have alot of great opertunities to see what this can do but here's some pics of me playing with it learning how to use the really low F-stop. I slapped it together with a sigma MC filter. I read some reviews before purchasing this filter because it was quite expensive vs the Super HMC multi coat, but aparently people that have used both prefer it over teh B+W and Hoyas making it an excelent value. I did notice there is absolutly no coloration unlike the Hoya Super HMC, which has a very slight brownish tint to it. I don't know if it was really worth the difference in price though :). I had a better portrait shots of my friends with perfect bokeh but I figure I had better get their permission before posting them up.

Please keep in mind I was only practicing here, I'm very new to the SLR world. These shots were very easy to just snap off.

I'm still not sure how to get the best exposures or adjust the white balance on the fly.

Also here is a link to my quick review of the camera. I still have alot more to learn and judge the camera on so this is only my experience from using it for less than 2 weeks. The battery life seems ok, but when using the flash it drains quickly so I think I will be picking up a spare.

:( I was just reading the manual some more and realized that the pictures I have been taking have been using the "Fine" setting rather than the "Super Fine" that has to be added through the custom menu. Wow I would have put that in the review, kind of a stupid place to set the jpeg compression!

Luckily I was shooting in RAW too, however the images displayed were taken using the Fine setting then compressed for the web by flickr...

RAW is the only way to go, why give that much control of your images to your camera.

I usally always keep the WB in auto unless shooting under incandecent lights. Then I adjust for that. If you ever get use to shooting in RAW there is really no turning back. Download the free trail or new beta version of Adobe Lightroom. It will open a whole new world. WB can be adjusted after the fact if you shoot RAW. Good luck with the 50mm and thanks for sharing. As for compression setting, I shoot RAW+SQ jpg. shooting just RAW I get about 117 frames on a 2 GB card, but RAW+SQ I get 108. For the 10 frames I don't get, I get a jpg to preview, check sharpness, histogram etc. before I open up the RAW file - for me it saves tons of time.

I got adobe lightroom but it does not open up ORF files. I managed to get photoshop to open them using some beta drivers, but looks like it might be a while for lightroom. So for now I just archive the ORFg files.

not sure whats different but i use lightroom just fine with ORF files.

I think the ORF's work for the E3 and 420 now, but not for the e520 yet...I read I can change the meta data to fake it into reading the files but I'd rather not. Or convert to DNG but I was reading that this may reduce photo quality (I'm not certain of that though?). I'm thinking my best bet may be to wait for e520 support?
