    14-42mm vs 14-54

I'm considering selling my 14-52 kit lens, and buying a 14-54 instead. Does anyone have experience with this lens? Is it worth the upgrade?

I really want the 12-60, but can't justify/afford the cost. I can get the 14-54 for a lot less money.

    Thanks!

    Yes, you won't be sorry

As to the upgrade from the 14-54 to the 12-60 I find the image quality to be so close as to not be a factor, the wider range may be handy though depending on what you shoot.

    Cheers, Don

At this point, it makes more sense for me to upgrade to the 14-54. As you said, it seems like the only real advantage to the 12-60 is the extended zoom range, but is it worth anywhere from $400-600 more? I tend to think not.

I can get the 14-54 for $290 used. Seems like a good deal.

I'm just noticing that there are 2 versions of this lens. The older one, which I can get for $290, and the II, which will be around $450. Is it worth the extra to upgrade, or will the original be OK on my E-600?

The original will be fine and unless you are thinking of upgrading to the E3. I would get the 14-54mm. The 12-60mm is faster when used with an E3. The 14-54mm is far better than a kit lens. It is weather sealed, sharp and fast.

    Thanks for all the info.

Greg, I agree. Since I won't be upgrading the E-600 anytime soon, I'll get teh older 14-54 and use the savings to get the 50-200 that I was as well.

You can't go wrong with the 14-54mm. You will be very happy. It is the first upgrade I always suggest. You will notice faster focus in low light right off of the bat. The 12-60mm is slightly sharper but it takes looking good in post processing to notice. The 12-60mm also focuses faster on my E3 but it is an SWD lens and I am not to sure it would be faster on the E-600. I found my 12-60mm on craigslist for $500.00. Just keep looking and you will find some great deals on used equipment.

    Re: 14-42mm vs 14-54

OK, I bought the 14-54 MK I. I missed out on the one for $290, but found another for slightly more.

I had a possibility on a 12-60 for $650, which I think is a good deal, but I just can't afford that right now.

Down the road I'll get a 9-18 or 11-22 to supplement the 14-54.

I'm also looking at either the 50-200, or 70-300.

    Thanks for the help!
