    70-300mm with E-330

    Hey.

How does the 70-300mm work with the E-330? I've seen some awesome photos with the E-510, and I'm wondering if the E-330 has the same potential.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes any four thirds lens will work on the E-330.

What about Image Stabilization? Is it really necessary? The E-330 doesn't have it.

The rule of thumb for cameras without IS is not to have your shutter speed lower than your MM. For instance if you are shooting and 200mm your shutter speed should not drop below 1/200sec. If you have IS you can shoot 4 or 5 speeds slower than that. I think you will be fine unless shooting in low light. Once you upgrade cameras you will already have a great piece of glass for it.

Does this include Panasonic lenses? Not that I'm even in a position to buy any more lenses at this time...

Yes Panasonic and Leica 4/3rd mount lenses will work. The IS is in the lens and not the body on the Leica and Panasonic though.

That's correct. And because the optical image stabilization is in the lens, the lenses are HUGE! They're much larger and heavier that the Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses. The Leica Four Thirds lenses are excellent. Bot for me, the size and weight negates the value of using the Four Thirds System. For Four Thirds, I think sticking with Olympus lenses is the way to go. There's also no point in paying extra for the Panasonic O.I.S. when you have it built into the Olympus body.

And by the way, I love the Olympus 70-300mm lens. I've been using it on an E-3 and it's wonderful. Image quality is great and the reach is unbelievable. The auto focus performance has also impressed me.

    Re: 70-300mm with E-330

I tried out that lens a couple days ago, it's amazing, picture quality isn't very good at 300 mm (naturally) however, the best focal length/aperture to go with is 135 mm f8 (best sharpness/color/aberration minimization).

It's great otherwise, i would rather have the 70-200 mm 2.8 with a 1.4 x TC i think that lens is the better deal. Mind you that is about 1200 $ and the 70-300 is something like 800? It was f4 by the way, if i remember.

If you look to my flickr gallery in the upcoming week I'll have some sample shots available to see the quality of the 70-300 F4 VR on a nikon d40x

    B&H has the 50-200 SWD for ~$975. The 70-300 is ~$325. The EC 14 is $385.

Looking forward to seeing your results though....

It didn't specify anywhere if it was oly glass, for all I know he was talking about sigma's 70-300f4.5 which is about 600 $ brand new as of dec 2006. It's reduced significantly to about 100 $ on adorama .. which seems extremely low but that's an american site I think. .. The E-330 is just hardware, it shouldn't justify how good the glass is. but thanks for the correction.

buydig.com has the 70-300mm for $318. I don't think it gets much cheaper than that.

I'm sooooooo tempted to buy this for upcoming Cape Cod trip.

Nice flamingo by the way, Karen!
