Anyone else agree that this is WAY over priced?

The E-420 with the twin lens kit is a fraction of the price, and nearly just as compact.
How can Panasonic expects to tempt Point and Shoot users to this new format is beyond me.

    G1 Pricing Article

I posted a short article about the G1 pricing announcement, yesterday: http://reviews.photographyreview.com...mc-g1-pricing/

I agree that the G1 doesn't seem to be that much smaller than the E-420. But I'm witholding judgement until I get one in my hands. It's actually one-third smaller than the E-420, which is pretty significant. However it actually weighs a little more. It's the lenses that I'm most curious about. And I'm also curious to see what Olympus comes up with. The Olympus Micro Four Thirds concept camera looks interesting and smaller, although I was disappointed that it has no viewfinder.

Anyway, I'm going to wait and see. Sometimes subtle spec differences are more significant when you have a camera in your hands. I don't think the E-420 is that much smaller than the E-520, on paper. But when you hold them both, the E-420 feels a lot smaller.

    I liked it.
But it wasn't as small as I expected.

I think the price is probably MSRP. The 520 came out a little under the MSRP once it was released. Maybe that is the case here. I am with John. Wait and see. My M6 is a pretty heavy camera for it's size, but still easier to manage than a DSLR on the streets. IQ will have a lot to do with it as well.

Yes, it is somewhat overpriced. However, I was almost expecting more, since the L1/L10 were also announced with a high price tag.

    But if $800 buys a compact, high-tech camera with new features - we’ll see…

No, a Micro 4/3 cannot fit a 4/3 body. The lens mount to sensor distance is too long on 4/3.
The other way round works, a 4/3 lens with an adapter about 20mm thick will fit micro 4/3.

    Viewfinder?

What did you think of the EVF? Was the resolution good? Was it quick? Is it worthy?

Re: Pricing for the G1 anounced

    PJ - mixed, yes, maybe.

    I have a Minolta A1 and A2; A1 EVF sucked, A2 EVF was good, G1 is better.

But the A2 was let down by a worse sensor. Same size as the 5MP A1 but 8MP.
    More megapixels were not better.

I digress, I know you want to know about the G1.
It has one flaw, the display blanks when taking a photo.
The A1 did exactly the same, on a shutter press the display went blank while the image was acquired. The A1 went blank for so long that when taking a 3-shot burst (it took 90 seconds to save that!) was impossible with a moving F1 car.
Fortunately the G1 blanks for at most two images and then it returns to live view for the remainder of the burst.

Needless to say the rep on the stand was surprised, and he had to try it for himself.
He reckoned it might blank for only one image but agreed it does go blank.
Seemed put out by it so it might get reported back
