    e510 w/ 2 lenses for $533? Or wait for e520 $7XX+?

Well you have all sceen my buyers remorse thead. Ended up selling the new e420 to my friend. Its a good camera. I was set on waiting for the e520 to come out. However I just found an e510 for $533 with both lenses. This will be my frist SLR so i don't really know that I will be able to get the extra $300 in cost out of the e520.

Should I wait for it to launch for the e510 to drop in price even more? I'm thinking it may not drop much lower than this anytime soon? Seems like a killer deal, for the $300 I save I could almost buy a new e520 this time next year...

Please help me decide before the deal is over!

    Thanks and Regards,
    Justin

i say yes, invest that money into better glass, it will certainly improve your potential much more than the perks the 520 has over the 510.

Sorry about your truck. I've had that experience and it's no good. At all.

Back to the camera. Usually I'd agree w Atomic2 about lenses being a better investment. But having used both the E-510 and the E-520, I would rather have the E-520 and one lens than the E-510 and two lenses. The image quality is that much better.

I hear ya but the e520 is still $200 more with only a single lense than the e510 is with 2 lenses. I'm not sure I can justify the cost right now. For the price of the e510 now I could take it on vacation with me and buy an e520 next year when the price drops for the same price as buying the 520 when it first comes out.

Your also much more into camreas than I am, I'm really jsut looking to step up from my point n shoot. I figure the lenses are $130 each so I can sell them both on fleabay for about that price $260 then buy the 14-54 Lense for $375-260 ($115) and have an e510 with 14-54 for the same cost as the e520 body or $100 less than the e520 and kit lense.

My Vacation is end of July so that is making it harder to wait for e520 as well.

I was in a similar predicament, but needed a camera for an event on June 22. I ended up getting the E-510 and couldn't be happier but obviously haven't had a chance to compare head to head like Photo-John. I am a beginner DSLR photog myself and figure I can grow into the camera and maybe upgrade the body down the road.

I think we're already seeing the effects of the new model coming out hence the good deals available. Of course, if you wait until the 520 comes out, you can hold both in your hands and then decide if the extra scratch is worth it or not. The 510 price will probably come down a bit more once the 520 is released.

If I could have waited I would have done that. That being said, the minute I held the 510 I was sure it was the camera I wanted. I'm glad I didn't have to contemplate the 520 and the decision was made easier by my schedule.

A very good an valid point. My standards will be different than yours. I also push cameras and image files very hard. You may not need the kind of quality that I do. And as a step up from your compact digital camera, the E-510 will absolutely be better. You have my blessing
