Daughter dropped my E-510 camera - OUCH!

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter (19 month old) got up onto my chair, picked up my camera off of my desk and tossed it on the floor. :cryin: There was nothing I could do. I turned away for only a few moments and next thing you know she's got this camera in her hands. She was even holding it like she was going to take a picture. The dropped and :mad2:shattered my UV filter but that was the extent of damage. The only problem is, I can't get the old UV filter ring off the lens. Any suggestions.

Your problem is probably that if you grip the ring hard enough to get the friction you need for your fingers not to slip you distort the ring and it binds on the threads. Try gripping the old filter ring with a wide rubber band. It should provide the friction you need without having to squeeze so hard that you distort the ring. Just make sure you're not also grabbing the lens barrel.

I am glad the camera is fine. It's been a long time since I had a UV stuck. The last time was on my old Yashica 50mm. I just keep at it until it worked it self free. You might go to a camera shop. They might have a trick to try.

or pinch it into an hour glass shape with pliers and remove. Doesn't matter if you damage the filter anymore, so be as mean to it as you need to be.
