    Hyper Prime 50mm F/0.95!!

There is a seriously crazy lens whose existence I hope is more than elaborate rumor or hoax! I just posted an article about this in the Feature Articles section here at Photography Review.

The article can be read at this link:

Hyperprime 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro Four Thirds

© March 4, 2010 by drg (CD Price)

Now I really may have to get one of those m4/3rds cameras!

NOKTOR has updated/added to the website with additional information.

They are indeed based in the Atlanta, Georgia area as a LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) with a gentleman by the name of Solomon Chase at the corporate helm. see NOKTOR Webpage.

They also have released information date March 1, 2010 that Goyo Optical, Inc. of Japan is indeed who is manufacturing the Hyperprime lens unit that they are offering. see NOKTOR Press Release PDF.

    Stay tuned.

The price I saw on the site was $750.00. Where did you get the 10 grand?

The Leica lens I mentioned in the separate article sells for that much or more! Of course you'd have to have an adapter for 4/3rds.

More 'samples and reviews' are popping up on the web for this lens. I wish some of those commenting would understand that a lens of this type is going to be 'soft' wide open. It may be that they just haven't found the very thin focal plane either! You almost have to take a tape and measure to use one of these (or any other hyper lens) and find the sharp area at max aperture.

    Re: Hyper Prime 50mm F/0.95!!

Thanks for clarifying drg. Yes I knew about the Leica but it is not made for the 4/3rds so it would be subject to the x2 crop and I also read it was a bugger to focus wide open and get right.

    Re: Hyper Prime 50mm F/0.95!!

Well, Leica "IS" Leica... but $10K is too much!
I think that every lens faster than f/1.4 would be soft wide open, even Leica 25/1.4 is a bit soft at 1.4!,
so lenses at f1.2, f1.0 or even this one at f0.95 will be somewhat soft wide open no matter what!
So these lenses will need too much practice and measurement as drg mentioned (and probably a tripod so you won't lose focus! ).
At least $750 is very good for such a lens
