    50mm + ec 20
    Greetings,

I've been playing around with the ec 20 (2x teleconverter) on the 50mm lately. Quite pleased with the results.

Very unscientific test, original image resized for web and a 100% crop.....

so what does that make it, a 100mm F4? (2 stops light difference)

    Oddly symmetrical.

So then no real advantage over the 40-150 3.5-4.5?

Hmmm... Pretty hard to compare a prime to a zoom but I assume you mean the 40-150mm @ 100mm vs the 50mm + ec 20.

The obvious difference is the Image Quality, the 50mm is Sharp.

Then there's the closest focusing distance, .24m for the 50 and .9m for the 40-150.

This relates to the Maximum Image Magnification. .52x for the 50 and .14x for the 40-150.

As I understand it, this simply means you can obtain a larger image with the 50mm because your minimum working distance is less.

I don't own a 40-150 anymore so I can't test it but I would think if you were farther away but zoomed to 150mm the image sizes would be similar.
