What's there to do in Moab?
I looked for a Travel Forum but couldn't find one :D
I am looking at going up to Moab for a few days real soon. I know about Canyonlands and Arches and all the pretty pictures around there. But what else is there to do? What's neat in the town? Any good restaurant finds? Also if you offroad any recommendations for a stock 4x4 Ranger?

The last time I was out there, I don't think we even stopped in Moab...
I did find this site that may help you if you haven't already checked it out.
http://www.moab-utah.com/
The Moab Brewery looks like it could be a nice place to stop for a bite to eat and a beverage of choice.
Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Bring a mountain bike :)
When I went there a couple years ago, besides all the MTBing we did, we just bought a map, filled up the gas tank and just went cruising through the canyons.
Re: What's there to do in Moab?
You're only four hours away from SLC, you should come up afterwards!
Restaurant wise, Eddie McStiff's is a Moab must, for dinner and yummy beer.
The Moab Diner is a good place too, their Kokopelli Chicken is decadent but YUMMY!
Coffee wise, I'd recommend the coffee place that's in the same strip mall as Eddie McStiff's, it's name escapes me.
The library in Moab was named Library Journal's "Best Small Library in America 2007", and genuinely deserves the distinction.

Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Thanks Mike actually I did find that exact same page. I like getting personal recommendations though ;) Maybe I will check out that brewery that could be fun.
Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Yeah I'm not much of a biker. I'd rather either drive or walk ;)
I do need to pick up a Utah state atlas on my way up there, I keep meaning to do that. Preferably one with all the dirt roads drawn on it too. I did find a list of places to offroad looks like it'll be fun - if the weather holds.
Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Thanks Bri! I'll check out those places! I especially appreciate the restaurant tips.
I don't think I'll be making it to Salt Lake this trip though ;) Just enough time to run up to Moab and back. Thanks though!

Moab Brewery is good, but Eddie McStiff's is better.
Trust me on this one...

Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Moab is a neat little outdoors-ish town with plenty of biking, hiking, and sightseeing ops. As a photographer you will undoubtably spend a lot of time at Arches NP. It's within easy shot of several other parks also.
Last time I was there, Arches NP was open 24/7 so you can even go in late and set up your camera and do an all night North Star exposure -- just make sure you get back 1 to 1.5 hrs before sunrise to close the lens. If you do this, you might also want to try a few flash strobe shots of the foreground to illuminate it and see how that looks against the swirling stars. You can do this first and separately to determine what looks best, then do a separate shot with that and the swirling stars. Hopefully your battery will hold up if it's digital.
I need to get out there again too!!!

Well, I went and am back :) Brian Eddie McStiff's was closed for some reason during lunch so I took to eating at the Moab Diner. Not a whole lot to do in that little town :)

Re: What's there to do in Moab?
So how many days or hours were you actually in and around Moab then?
It looks like you were for at least a day and saw a lot.
Sorry to hear that McStiff's was closed!
Maybe they don't do lunch? I've never eaten anything but dinner there.
Good looking photographs! I have seen people ride bikes across Gemini Bridges, so walking acrossed it is nothing!

Re: What's there to do in Moab?
I was there 2 nights, I got to see the town, Arches and then Canyonlands on my way back home. Eddie's had a lunch menu but they were locked up. Oh, well, better luck next time.
Brian I eyed the Kokopelli chicken on the Diner's menu but shied away :D

Re: What's there to do in Moab?
I haven't been to Salt Lake in YEARS. I'm sure I will find my way back up there someday and when I do my friend you will be one of the first to know!
And as for the Kokpeli Chicken, <i>it's on.
Re: What's there to do in Moab?
Hey Dylan,
I will undoubtedly be heading up there again at some point, I wasn't able to finish Canyonlands or get my picture of sunrise at the Mesa Arch so will eventually be back. You could type a brief synopsis now if you wanted, or I can make another post in the future when I go back!
