Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
I had a job interview today for a network administrator position in Ripon, WI, and I got the weirdest question ever.
On my resume, I put down that I have had a science fiction story published in a webzine known as the Grantville Gazette (which has earlier editions being printed in a deadtree version now).
So I go into this interview, and one of the interviewers stops the interview to point out the short story publication in the achievements section. Then he asks me "Do you play Dungeons and Dragons?"
"Yeah," I reply.
"What level and class is your character?" he asks.
"A level 2 human ranger," I say.
"Cool," he said. "I have a eleventh level wizard and a level 5 fighter."
After that, the conversation veered to D&D for about five minutes.
Re: Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
I hope you make the second interview with the Dugeon Master.
I don't know anything about D&D but I really wanted to back in the day.
Anyway, funny story and good luck with the job hunting!
Re: Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
Yeah I think that wins for weirdest, least predictable twist in a job interview. I'll bet you get the job because of it though!
I used to watch the Saturday morning cartoon back in the day. Anyone remember that one?

That is strange. I don't remember any strange questions like that ever coming up in any of my interviews. I once got a rejection letter for a job I never applied for, or interviewed for...
It was for an insurance company. They contacted me, and asked me to come in and take a test. I had no interest in the job, but figured what the hell. I guess I didn't do so good on their test. :)
Re: Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
When I interviewed for an IT contract job at Coors, I was asked "What was being trucked in the Burt Reynolds movie "Smokey and the Bandit." Not having seen the movie at thetime and being a complete dunce, I didn't have an answer. Yeah, Coors, of course.
Re: Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
I didn't remember that either. But in the second one, they ship an elephant!
Re: Weirdest Job Interview Question Ever!
The best question I had a prospective employer ask me was: Do you plan to keep chasing after my daughter if you get hired here? My response... Heck yeah, thats why I want to work here :D
About a month later I asked him why he hired me, he said two reasons, one because I was honest with him, and two so he could keep an eye on us  It didn't stop us though, and I still got 5 raises in the first year :p

LOL
I have an 8/9 Fighter/Thief Named .. get this .. Jaedon :) . It has been my alter ego name since I was 15. 20 years of being called that at friends places and it kinda sticks.
Seriously though... I bet he went home and tried to find the online story now just to see how creative you are too. Never know what makes you stick in the mind of the interviewer. Anything that makes you stand out is a bonus. Good Luck

Congrats! So do you have to dress up as "A level 2 human ranger" on your first day.
Like I said I know nothing about D&D...
Rick...I remember the cartoon...was pretty good. I always thought Venger was a cool bad guy nickname. Can I change my PR handle to Venger??
Masdog....what NOS will you be working on?

I had an interviewer use the "F-Word" during an interview once..
It didn't bother, but it catch me off guard a bit, considering it was a job interview.
I didn't get the job, but that had nothing to do with it.
