Definitely one of the VERY ODD characters of rock & roll, and that's saying a lot...:cornut:

IMO, the irony here is that it was only when Barrett (who influenced early Floyd more than anyone) left the band that guitarist David Gilmour was brought in, and it was Gilmour that helped solidify the group's eventual sound that elevated them to Art Rock icons...

Odd is a good word Steve. I got turned onto Floyd pretty late in their career, but I fell in love with their sound. I find it very relaxing and just puts me in a good mood.

I once heard that the song Wish You Were Here was written about Syd, even tho he was THERE, in body anyway.

I also heard a story about how they were in the studio and Syd was trying to play something, and just couldn't get it. One of the band members told him to play it backwards. And he played it perfectly backwards.

I'm not sure if there is any truth to it, but I found it pretty interesting.

I used to have a couple of the early Pink Floyd albums, including Piper At The gates Of Dawn. I think I even had a Syd Barret solo album. His stuff was wayyyyy different from what Pink Floyd came to be. But it was really cool. And I don't think there's anything really like it. I might have to pick up Piper At The Gates Of Dawn again.
