    Question Using blog websites.....question

I don't have a lot of time to "blog" but am curious about some websites. This may be a rather stupid question, but I'm asking anyway. No one has ever complained about my questions yet.....

I just discovered some of my friends use MySpace dot com. Clicking into the link to their "page" (correct term?), I realized they can use their "spot" for just about anything. After the media splash about all the arrests of pedafiles (and worse) using MySpace, I wondered how safe websites like this are. When you go into this website, it states that no porn, nudity, profanity, etc are allowed and will be removed - which seems a useless statement given the press they got about the videos posted on the website.

What are these websites basically set up for? Are they just to provide free space to anyone for anything they want to use it for? I noticed they also let you store images there free. Do people actually use it for setting up a personal website?

Anyone familiar with this wish to comment?

Thanks......just trying to educate myself on the latest internet options.

    Re: Using blog websites.....question

I don't get the whole My Space thing - sure I spend enough time here that I should see the value in it, but I guess I just don't. My band has a My Space page (yes, correct term!) that I manage. It's great for bands - it's basically a free website where we can display pictures, list upcoming shows, write a blog and they'll even host some music which we haven't recorded. We haven't done a "real" site yet, so at least we have something.

Nudity/profanity/etc isn't allowed there, just like spam isn't allowed here. Paul just notified us that some guy spammed the same message seven times for the software that he sells. The rest of these messages will be deleted quickly, but it doesn't happen instantly. I'm sure it's the same thing over there but with 70 million pages (it looks like), it might take awhile before they find everything. I haven't run across anything but I don't spend much time there. And yes, it's mainly known for people having personal pages for networking, meeting people to date, etc.

If you're really bored, our My Space page is here... I lost interest in the blog...

Thanks Rick - I'm not sure what if anything we will do with audio. If we do it, we want to do it right and that means going to a recording studio. That's expensive and we have been getting some decent bookings without a CD including festivals where you pretty much need all that stuff.

Don't know if you saw it, but we're two guys named Steve and two guys named Nick. That's how we got the name, having nothing to do with the set list...

MySpace is really for young 20-somethings and teenagers. All the young kids in my class, especially females, have a page there. I am not sure you'd fit in there, I know I wouldn't. It can be dangerous because young people are always so anxious to have everyone know everything about them. That is what leads to trouble. Hopefully, you can't be so easily conned!

I would look for other, more mature, blog sites.

I don't know why I even thought about any blog sites. As much as I enjoy posting here - I seldom have the time. I'll just close this chapter.

    Thanks Mike.

    I started a BLOG recently, ...

And many people here know (because I plug it from time to time). My family is taking a half-year sabbatical down here in Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico. My wife is volenteering in local clinics (she's a doc), and the kids are going to the local public school.

I started the BLOG because I thought it would be an easy vehicle to keep all our friends updated with our stories and such (as well as photos). I just send out an email to all whenever I've added anything significant. For these purposes, I think it has worked out quite well. I will not pursue this after we return to the states.

I went with blogspt.com after it was recommended by some knowledgeable people here at pr.com:

Well, I have Myspace and haven't been molested yet. Unless you're an idiot and give people detailed instructions to your house and your phone number, you should be ok. It's a good place to keep in touch with friends. That's what i use it for.
