Funny if it Weren't So Sad

In Denver, a homeowners association is demading that a resident remove a Christmas wreath that has a peace symbol as part of it. Why? No, not because it celebrates Christmas. It's because peace symbol means you support Peace and are against the Iraq war! A few others claim that Peace is a symbol of Satan. The homeowner thought that Peace on Earth and Good Will... oh, you know the rest. So much for that good ol' Christmas spirit!

I lived in Colorado for about 7 years and got used to the bizzarre and weird notions of the super-right who live there (other than in The Kingdom of Boulder, of course!). But how strange is this? But I'll be fair. When the members of the homeowner's council refused to cite the homeowner, the president of the council fired them all and instituted the ban himself!

Demonstrates not only how redneck Colorado is, but also how evil and wrong homeowner's associations are. I'm saving up for a compound in Southern Utah and a pack of yard dogs. The main gate will be festooned with a giant barbed wire peace Christmas wreath

Unless, of course, the federal government bans barbed wire because it is sharp and you might hurt yourself...

It makes you wonder just how a president of a homeowners association council could single handedly fire all the rest on the council. Usually there are bylaws to prevent such an abuse of power.

I wondered about that, too. I predict a coup - possibly an assasination. What is this country coming to when a homeowner's association can overrule the constitutional right to free speech? And why do people allow themselves to be subjected to this petty tyranny called the "homeowner's association?" Take it to the streets, brothers and sisters!

lol...I will never belong to a homeowner's association. I've heard too many horror stories. Besides, why pay an association to tell you what you can and can't do on your own property? That's what city councils are for!! :cryin: Sad story...my neighbor across the street just paid the city $300 to reassess his property line on account of the fact that he is building a new garage. In exchange for his $300 he gets to lose 5 feet of his property to the city. How's that for eminent domain with a twist?

My condo ASSociation told me I can't have a "go away" doormat at my front door which is inside MY HALLWAY(not common property)..... I told them my lawyer wants them to read it again They never asked again

I think this is rediculous and scary and shows what happens when the religious right lets bush steal an election

LOL...but you have to admit...it was better to let bush steal it than let gore.

Frankly, I say let perot run again...it's about time politicians paid their own way!

    Update

It apperars that the homeowners association has blinked. The fine has been revoked and the charges dropped. The association's president and one board member have had their phone numbers changed and made them unlisted. A third board member is not answering her phone.

I am a bit confused as the first CNN article indicates that the president fired all the other members. This article suggests that a few were left.

It is very heartening to see that the homeowners themselves forced the issue.

    Already done in the UK.
You are not allowed to put anything in place that might hurt trepassers or burglars.
No broken glass set in concrete on the top of the wall, no barbed wire, nothing on the ground to break their fall (or limbs) as they jump off the wall they are now able to climb ...

"Director of Public Prosecutions Ken Macdonald said case law made it clear that people could use what force they instinctively felt necessary at the time for self defence.
A trawl of cases over the last 15 years had produced only 11 examples where householders or occupiers of business premises had been prosecuted, he said.
And those had included a warehouse manager who waited for a burglar, caught him, beat him, tied him up and then set fire to him."

    That's a good start.

    This is better:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/c...re/4272041.stm

from the Police National Legal Database:
"Using barbed/razor wire and broken glass in order to stop people getting in to your home is not advisable. You are making yourself liable to civil action as you owe a duty of care to ensure that visitors to your property are reasonably safe. As absurd as it may seem you also owe a lower duty of care to trespassers."

    from West Midlands Police:
"A trespasser who could not be aware that glass was on top of a wall, or nails on a fence, and was injured, could have a claim against you despite the fact they were not authorised to be on your property."

Geesh, it's getting scary when the law is more concerned about the safety of criminals while in the act of committing a crime than being concerned about the safety of the property owner and his family.

And the Colorado wreath thing is just asinine.
