The kid down the hall who freaks out when I say "god damn" seems to have a new girl sleeping over every week, most of them highly intoxicated. But what does he care? He's gettin' some as$. And then there's my roommate and I... no real religious affiliation, raised catholic but unhappy with the church, and we dont' drink, we don't mess around with random girls, we have MORALS. Far from perfect, but we’re a hell of a lot closer to living by Christian values than any of our Christian friends. Values dont' come from god, they come from parents, teachers, role models, and everyone else a child interacts with.
You piss and moan about being denied the right to do something as petty as pray in school, and then you advocate taking away the right of two human beings to have a legally binding relationship?
Segregation... stupid, right? Wrong on every degree. An awful part of America's history, to be sure. Well, people believed just as strongly that black students shouldn't be allowed in white schools as you believe that two men shouldn't be allowed to be married. Now don't those silly racists look shamefully stupid.... hey, wait, so you do! You are denying the same sort of basic right.
Religious values? You can stick 'em where the sun don't shine.

/Angry RantIf i've offended anyone with my little post, then ummm.... sorry. College hasn't changed since you were a kid (or maybe it has?)
Wow, that is a rant. No offense taken here, as I feel anyone should be able to express their views. Not that I don't find anything wrong with some of what you say, mind you.

In the first place, you are looking at all the wrong people. Before I became a Christian I focused on all the people who claimed to be Christian and lived no differently than me. They were my justification for finding everything bad about Christianity and not becoming one. What I failed to do, however, was look at the people who were actually living Christian lives and espousing good conduct by their example. What I'm saying is, you can't judge religious values as worthless by focusing on people who claim to be religous and yet don't really live that way.

Secondly, as far as rights go, the founding fathers were only concerned with what they regarded as natural rights, not the right to do just about anything a man deems that he wants to do. If the latter were the case, hey, why not legalize pedophilia like the Romans did, or why not bestiality and every other perversion? The fact of the matter is, these things, like homosexuality, are not natural rights because they cross the lines of what is natural or naturally given by God to man. They debase society, weaken it, and lend only to the self-destructive principle of self-love, something of which Jefferson said would be the sure ruin of this country. So it is really an error to try and equate the homosexual issue with the race issue. They are worlds apart. But I understand that college is not always about giving you young folks the best education. Oftentimes it is a breeding ground for politically correct thinking, not to mention how to learn to despise religion and religious folks (and Christianity in particular) as evident by your parting shot.

By the way, I seriously doubt you are as moral as you think you are. I once had a very high view of myself, but of course I was comparing myself to the phony Christians. Anybody can compare themselves to hypocrites and look good. That's not difficult in the least.

    Re: Merry Christmas from Wal-Mart

I focus on the bad christians because they further my argument, just as you focus on the 'good christians' to further yours. I am not agruing that all christians are bad people. 99% of christian beliefs encourage people to be excellent citizens, kind parents, etc etc. It's the 1%, the hateful christian ethos, that I despise. It is the lack of a dynamic mindset that turned me off of christianity, and religion in general. But you can't really expect anything else, right? What was said by god was true when it was said, so if it is not true now then the omnipotence of god is called into question, which is a danger to faith, right? Just because evolution is almost as proven as gravity doesn't mean you should believe it. No, keep trusting that old book of yours, without an ounce of proof. No, wait, AGAINST all proof that has ever been recovered! Great idea.
Why must you hate that which is different? The rate of change in the church is so painfully slow, so painfully behind modern thought and theory, that it makes any ideas coming out the church obsolete.

People used to think African American's were naturally inferior, and now does't that sound idiotic. Who are you to decide what is natural? And why should an entire nation have to conform to what a single religion believes is natural? The government has no place deciding what people can and can't do in the privacy of their own homes.
The belief that homosexuality is inferior or wrong in any way is absouletly ridiculous. Do you think gays chose to be gay? If your answer is yes, then ask yourself this question: why would anyone chose to be outcasted and hated by a good portion of the population? Nobody would.

You want to know my honest opinion of most religious people? I think they're gullible. Most of them are very lovely, very kind, but completely ignorant. I see religion as the greatest con of all time. I'd rather have faith in something tangible.

Yeah I'm probably going to hell because I haven't found jesus. At least I'll have most of the world's population right alongside me.

Most of what's been said on both sides makes perfect sense. But some of it (also on both sides) is complete crap. Go figure.

Merry Christmas to those who like it. Happy holidays to the rest.

well, I guess that's what this thread was made for, when we dive off the main subject into political or religious tangents. Frankly, I like it!

Here's a commentary piece by Lou Dobbs that fits in with this thread. I was going to post a link to the article about the Rabbi and the airport that Dobbs is refering to, but I didn't get around to it.
