Lightscribe, Fantastic way to label and decorate cd's.

This is the best thing i've found for the PC. I just bought a new DVD drive for my desktop, with a feature called Lightscribe. It allows you to flip the disc over and burn an image of your choice onto the label side(Needs lightscribe discs). I plan to use this from now on for all of my photo back up CD's. Its much easier to type on the label, and then burn, than it is to write on every album thats on the cd.

I've used it to label a picture cd, with every folder name on it, by date, and have enough room for a nice border picture. It takes about 20 mins to do a high quality burn, and I usually run it once more on draft to add a bit more contrast.

The drive cost me $33, and the dvd's, $27 for a 30 pack. I'm enjoying this too much, I've been decorating dvd's so fast, i'd better slow down.

Heres 2 that I've done so far.

This one looks worse than it actually looks in person. you can see the lines in the print on the disc, but not so in person.

Anybody else use this? can anybody offer some tips about making images better on this disc?

Re: Lightscribe, Fantastic way to label and decorate cd's.

Now, that's a pretty cool thing! I got a "label maker" program for Christmas one year but have yet to use it for my CD's. This looks like a much cooler product.

Would you mind cross-posting this in the Digital Imaging & Computers forum? I don't want to move it because I think it's relevant here too. But I think the folks over there would appreciate seeing this.

Thanks! And thanks for posting it.

I used to think so too but 20 minutes per burn is a long time when you have 4 or 5 to do!

I took Asylum Steve's advice and got the Epson printer that allows you to print in color and does a fantastic job. It was only about $150.

The lightscribe can do some nice things though!
