    Ken Lay got off easy
Just read a CNN headline that Ken Lay of Enron fame died in Aspen CO. He was waiting for sentencing after being found guilty (can't remember if it was all counts or all except one). That's kind of a final slap in the face to all the people who lost so much because of his actions... Aspen isn't exactly an inexpensive place to be, either.

CNN lists a source that called it a "massive coronary" but say that details are not being (officially) released yet. We'll see, it's just to convenient.

At least he was nice enough to save us taxpayers on the prison expenses (chef, massage therapist, greens keeper)!

Hehheh, yeah he was a real angel

The next question is, isn't there a drug that when induced can cause a heart attack? Suicide cover-up?

Oh, come on now. Most people know now there's no such thing as hell.

Though I can think of a couple of J Lo movies that come close...

I came across a BBC article calling him a "fallen hero". I only scanned it but they seemed to focus more on the positive things he had done in life, his poor childhood, etc. Oh, and by the way he was waiting for sentencing... That sort of thing.

However, a lot of those "good things" were generous contributions of money. And just where did he get that money? :skep:

Rick, I guess they already did the autopsy today. They're saying it is heart related but also that the toxicology results won't be back for 2-3 weeks. Somehow this subject has me more fired up than usual.

Hey, I aint gonna knock the guy. He created an empire, was he corrupt...sure, but no more then gas companies. (I know, I know, it's not the rich Texas people that are to blame, its those third world countries charging us all that money for crude oil....)

I am not saying he was a Saint, but he's no George W. Bush either, so go easy.

The new Quad Burger from Burger King? Four patties of meat, four slices of cheese, four slices of bacon, and a mayo blend.

    LOL

I had their breakfast "sandwhich" a few times. It was like, 3 eggs, 2 slices of sausage, bacon, and cheese. Lucky I burned it off remodeling a basement.

And we wonder why we're the fattest country? Consumers demand fast food joints to carry healthy options, but when they come through the doors they order the junky stuff. Mixed message...

    Good grief, the whitewash begins...

Go easy? Hey, I may be a killer but I didn't kill as much as Manson did. Go easy on me!

Ken Lay was a thief and a con artist who not only stole money from the company but raided the pensions and holdings of tens of thousands of ordinary people. He helped rape the California economy by creating a later-disclosed fake oil shortage. As he relaxed in his luxurious Aspen home, former workers cancelled their retirement and their futures because they are broke. He cashed out right before the bankrupsy announcement while, at the same time, freezing out the workers from doing the same thing.

Ken Lay was no hero, no saint, no good guy gone wrong. He was slimy and corrupt from top to bottom, worse than most. He did indeed get off easy.

Sorry guys, I fail to see how dying qualifies as getting off easy.

While he may have have been a lying, cheating scum, I don't believed he deserved to die. And even if the heart attack was helped along, suicide, to me, isn't taking the easy way out. It's taking a cowards way out. And even then, I don't see how it qualifies as getting off easy.

He "got off easy" because he didn't have to sit in jail and ponder the consequences of what he'd done?

    Just a thought.

I'm not a big fan of, well stuff like violence and not giving someone a chance to redeem themselves, but some people (IMO) are pretty much beyond help. He never paid for ruining so many people's lives. Even while waiting for sentencing he lived in one of the most expensive places in America (I've heard Aspen is the place that's so expensive that waiters, dishwashers, etc have to drive a long distance to work because they can't afford to live any closer). That doesn't show remorse to me. Then one day, he's just gone.

Actually, they are forced to live two valleys over. Quite a trip in the winter. Aspenization spreads like mold!

There is a line in the movie "Unforgiven" that goes something like: "When you kill a man, you take away everything he's ever had and anything he's ever going to have."

Dead is worse than anything else, IMHO.

I respectfully disagree. I'd rather be dead than in jail. Dead = heaven/god; jail = big scarey guys named Bubba just waiting for me to drop the soap :blush2:
