Home Page - what do you use?
I was wondering what different options there are for internet "Home Pages." I use Verizon simply because it's easy since I have Verizon DSL.

However, I like seeing the headlines when I log on. Verizon's headlines are often days behind, and sometimes not available to read when you click in. Today's headlines are actually about a week old. Sometimes they go back to a headline that was new over a month ago - and it stays there all day.

I used to have aol dial up, but was glad to get rid of it. Some of their "stuff" still comes up; i.e. when IE opens, it says "Internet Explorer by aol" which I have never been able to get rid of. AOL used to send me all kinds of notifcations for months after I left. I don't want to take the chance of going back there.

What I liked about the aol home page was that you create your own - with many options. Any other home pages give you this option?

One of my friends uses google, but there isn't anything too interesting there.

    Thanks.....

Yeah, been a My Yahoo guy for many years. Still thinks it makes the best home page. At a glance you see all the news wire headlines, sports scores (including favorite team results). I also include modules for fashion, entertainment and tech news, select city weather (so I can empathise with my friends suffering around the country right now), and local movie times.

Plus there's quick access to my web-based email as well as easy to organize folders of bookmarks to all kinds of web sites I frequent, including this one!

    Thanks Steve, Manacsa and Seb,

I think I'll give Yahoo a try......first....it sounds like it has more types of options I'm looking for.

    Liz,

I use Google. I has nearly unlimited ways to customize your home page. I have news (updates constantly through the day), Pac Man, quote of the day, recipes from Epicurious.com, weather, horoscope, word of the day, comics, jokes, and I don't even know what else... it's worth a look, imo, if Yahoo doesn't work for you!

    Rick,

I'll check that out. A friend of mine uses google. I must have missed something, because when I used her computer and linked onto the home page, all I got was the google search.

Thanks! I have have gmail (google email) which I love. Lara actually gave me the invitation - and anything Lara recommends has to be good!

Thanks Rick.....sounds like this might be the final decision.....:D

    Hi Liz :)

    You're too kind!

I use Google personalized home page. I like the option to move the content around simply by the drag and drop method. Yahoo's home page is good as well, but now that I've gotten used to Googles page, that's my pick. Oh, and AOL has a home page that you can check out.

My suggestion, give them all a try and see what's most comfortable and useful to you. :D

    Thanks Lara,

I'm going to try Google first - and just stay there if I like it to simplify things and save time. I wouldn't use aol because I still have "stuff" that a professional couldn't get out of my pc when I left their dial-up. At any rate, I like the idea of drag and drop too. I like things simple, and this sounds good.

BTW, have a great weekend. Hope you're doing well.

    Good Question!
I have three Home pages. Two on my laptop and one at the office. The office Home page is, of course, PhotographyREVIEW.com's Home page. And on Firefox, on my laptop, the actual Home page is My Yahoo. I have it customized with links to a bunch of sites I use regularly and RSS feeds for all kinds of camera technology news. I have PhotographyREVIEW.com RSS feeds for the Latest Reviews and News, too. How many of you know that we have RSS feeds?

I also have Google Home page that I use on my laptop. I usually have one Firefox tab with My Yahoo and one with the Google Home page. I use the e-mail accounts for different things and I have different content on the Google page. The most important thing on my Google page, besides my Gmail account, is weather for San Jose; Salt Lake City; Reno, Saint George, UT; Truckee, CA; Fruita, CO; Vancouver, BC; Santa Barbara; Moab; and Cedar City, UT. And I might add some more today! Gotta keep track of what's happening in all my favorite places :D

That reminds me, I saw the coolest bumper sticker in Telluride last month:

    London. New York. Paris. Moab.

I wanted to take a picture of it but the car was gone by the time I got back to it.

And no, I didn't know we had RSS feeds!

If you spend a lot of time with mountain bikers, that one pops up pretty often. Another good one is the oval FU sticker, from Fruita, Colorado. The FU is for Fruita, USA. Got one on my bike rack :D

I *just* changed from Sparkpeople.com (a diet and fitness site) to MyYahoo.com last night.

But really, my preferred home page is about:blank.

I don't really need a home page because I have a routine. CNN.com is the third click on that routine, after two email accounts. Just after cnn, I go to my forums.

And I have all my important bookmarks at the top of my browser for easy access.

I have the default msn on the home computer and www.onmilwaukee.com on the laptop. It's news, but not hardcore news news. More like fluff news, that's really all I can handle.
