    Casino Royale

Saw it. Liked it. Need to see part of it again.

I will try not to ruin the film for those who have not yet and are still going, but to say that there some very interesting camera work in the first 20+ minutes or so of the film. One chase scene in particular, think about where the camera had to be (yes helicopters and remotes) but there are some other incredibly crafted shots in this movie.

Also, keep your eyes open and watch not only product placement in the corners but for 'special cameos', uncreditied of course, of various celebrities and actors!

Personally I believe this Bond has lots of potential.

Look forward to hearing others view on this and whether "The Franchise" has been successfully reinvigorated.

I actually heard it wasn't that great, but I was still going to see it anyways, since I love the bond series (what guy doesn't?). Looks more action packed than previous films.

    I think so...
I think if you liked Conery or Moore, you'll like Daniel Craige.

    Finally saw this!

Okay, I liked the movie, but I cannot stand Daniel Craige. First off, the guy has a head like a lumpy rock. So I guess as long as his back was to the camera, I'm okay with with.

Really, I guess the thing that bothers me most about him is that he isn't Pierce Brosnen.

Wow, that's the first hint at a negative take on the film I've heard. All reviews I read raved about how good it is, especially consdering there were no real expectations, and how it's refreshingly charged up the franchise again...

Well, I like Craig from the other films I've seen him in, so I was (am) willing to give him a chance before I pass judgement.

I agree that Brosnan made a good Bond, but his 007 films just got so ridiculous I couldn't even watch.

I guess the bigger and badder these Bond films get, the more I appreciate the gritty, toned down action and suspense of the "Bourne" movies. Right now I like those a lot more...

    Re: Casino Royale

Craig makes a good Bond. He has the right, "ruthless look" that was shared by only one other Bond: Sean Connery. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan were too "pretty".

As for the movie, it was "gritty" and more realistic than previous Bond movies but it was not terribly well-written and the plot was too "loose" with dangling pieces and a poor ending.

    Re: Casino Royale

I saw this twice within the week it came out and I have to say, I liked it much more than previous bond films. While being much more human and stupid, the new bond was so much cooler because of it, and dare I say more badass?

Much closer to the Fleming Bond, more realistic. The film was OK but I miss the gadgets! Also, every Bond flick, from the first Dr. No onwards, had an undercurrent of humor that I really missed in the latest film.

I like my movie hunks pretty. If by "ruthless" you mean "lumpy head", then I agree.

also, Sean Connery may qualify as ruthless, but I'd take him any day. Any age as well.

    Re: Casino Royale

i can't stand that guys eyes it was quite off putting for me. only the bad guy is supposed to have freaky eyes. the film was great and it held very closely to the book which is a challenge. some of the editing was a little unispiring but that is normal for hollywood. I still don't understand why they chose to set it in the present day when story wise it is supposed to be much older (and given it was a prequell and all) I guess somebody is seeing $$$$ so they will be able to remake all the bond films in much the same way they are doing with the batman series.

    Re: Casino Royale

It would simply be...dated... to set it back in the 50's. The cold war is, fortunately for many of us, over. The world is different now

I love the movie. I've considered myself a fanatic for years- read every fleming Bond novel and story, seen every 'official' film at least Ten times (with the exception of Die Another Day, which I have only seen 5 times out of protest)... you get the picture. I had a lot of nights and weekends with nothing to do growing up. I have made it through the bond series in one sitting- without sleeping (official series, naturally, plus Never say Never Again) . It was pretty tough.

I ordered the Blu-Ray from Amazon as soon as I could, and got it in the mail shortly after release day. The day it came in, since I didn't have HDTV, and to watch the blu-ray in SD would be doing it an injustice, I went out and bought a 1080P LCD with every cent I had saved up that I was going to split between a new TV and a few camera and computer goodies.

Since then, I've watched the movie through at least 5 times, maybe 6 or 7.

Daniel Craig is a fantastic bond. I noted several key points where his behavior is a clear departure from previous films and intentionally changed to fit Ian Fleming's James Bond.

Let's just say that this is the first Bond movie released after my birth year that I have been even remotely convinced by Bond. This is one of only a handful of times where I've felt even remotely convinced by the words "as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in" before the title.

Not that Deckcadet is a complete Bond phsycho, but to practice editing his freshman year, he recut allmost, if not all of the trailers to the bond flicks. Its been a long, yet strangely wonderful 4 years having him as a student.

I liked the new Bond, close to the books and wonderfully menacing.
