Solid braid nylon is the rope I recommend for most flagpoles. The tight braiding helps to prevent wear and tear. The polymers used to make the nylon repel rot and mildew. These factors help in allowing the rope to last longer.

As a former military man I have had flags in my yard most of my life - both USA and Texas. A PVC flagpole stuck on a piece of iron re-enforcement bar makes a good flagpole that turns with the wind. (You can look up directions for making one on the internet.)
Many of my neighbors fly the flag on the 4th of July and Memorial Day and some do all year.
By the way recently I made new flagpole in the yard, and I found good ropes reviews on https://bestyardproducts.com/best-rope-for-flagpole/ maybe this will be useful for you.
