    Browser redirecting need help

I have got something in my computer that is continually redirecting my to other sites, what do I need to get rid of this problem? Would Spyware Doctor or StopZilla work or is there something else you would recommend. This is driving me nuts. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, Jeff

    Re: Browser redirecting need help

Hitman Pro worked for me, but mine was only for searches. It was suprising what other things also started working better that had been slowly getting worse for quite some time.

If you have the fake malware thing, it's really hard to get rid of.

EDIT - Small rant. Why do I pay Norton every year for anti-virus software and then when I get a virus they tell me that they will clean it up for $99??? - TF

Download spybot search & destroy and Ad aware se (both free) and run them. Those should do a good job of cleaning out the bad stuff.

    Re: Browser redirecting need help

malwarebytes is better than spybot these days:

you can download it directly here:
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...=dl&tag=button

actually it is probably easier if you just go through the steps on this wiki:

    http://www.techtalkwiki.net/spyware_...16113b1d294f47

I haven't yet had to post a hijack this log, but if you get to that step let me know and I will send you the link to the forum that posts the wiki. Sometimes you might have to do some of the steps more than once, as each pass breaks apart more of the infection leaving the rest of it more open to removal.

I tried Spybot and it found nothing. LavaSoft Adware found 9 of what I think is the problem but could not remove or quarantine it. Both were the free versions, Jeff

    Re: Browser redirecting need help

Is it a redirect you can see happening or do you click on a link or favorite and it just goes to the wrong site? Did you manually check your hosts file? That's what I always do when I'm suspicious something might be redirecting me.

To check your hosts file (Windows), use Windows Explorer to browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\

Open the hosts file with Notepad and then make sure it hasn't been hacked. It should look like this:

#For NC, no new entry above, between this and next comments
    67.110.244.3 vpnwest.invenda.com
    #end of NC entry
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
