    Unhappy First snow fall

Well it's Oct. 12th, and we've had our first snow fall. It didn't last long, the wind had picked up and the skies got really dark and it snowed. I'm one hour north of Toronto, Ont. I sure hope this isn't a early sign of things to come. Yuck!

Sounds like you are in or close to the snowbelt area. Great for skiing!

Me too. I'm ready for a good six inches or more. I want to get some snowshoes this year so I can go exploring!

I much prefer cross country skiing. You can cover a lot more territory and come up on animals quietly.

My wife wants to try cross country skiing. If we can find some inexpensive used ones, I may just give that a try too.

What's snow, You mean that cold white stuff? We don't get it much around our parts and when we get a half inch they close the schools and panic. I remember as a kid it snowing alot. I am beginning to believe in global warming....

I paid $129 for new ones in Canada. Probably cheaper in the U.S.

There are ski resorts that rent ski equipment. Don't need to worry about that here, all that white stuff left us and now it's just rain, rain, and more rain. Rather have the white stuff.

Re: First snow fall - day late!

Well we got our first snow tonight not much, but enough to say it snowed. It was one day after the average first snow for this area. But by Thanksgiving day it will be in the mid 50's again ;)

    Re: First snow fall

Yup, they are talking 50's by Thanksgiving in my area too. I watched a documentary on Christmas in Yellowstone last night on public TV. Makes me want to grab my gear and snowshoes and spend a few days camping in the back country!

Thanks Ron. I did find some cheaper, but I have no idea what I'm looking for... Know of any good sites to give me a crash course in cross country skiing?
