How to install perforated one‑way vision window film without water?

Hey folks, I’m planning to apply one-way vision vinyl on my shop window — mostly for privacy, but also to show a bit of branding from the outside. I heard that this type of film should be applied without water, which surprised me since I’ve always used the wet method for regular vinyl. Has anyone done a dry install for this? I'm a bit nervous about messing it up, especially around the edges.

Yup, I’ve done a dry install with perforated windowfilm before. It’s actually a pretty straightforward process once you prep the surface well. The key is to clean the glass super thoroughly and then apply the film slowly, using a squeegee to press it down as you go. Because it’s perforated, water can get trapped and make things worse, so dry is the way to go. I followed the steps from https://applyityourself.com, which made the whole thing much easier — especially the part about waiting before removing the tape. The tips there were spot on.

I’ve seen those perforated films on buses and storefronts but didn’t realize they’re installed dry. Makes sense though with all those tiny holes — water would probably just cause bubbles or make it harder to stick evenly. Kinda cool how you can see out but people can’t see in.
