    I hope I don't look goofy like that when I shoot ;).

Lowering the image plane perpendicular to the abdomen of their body will give the lowest amount of distortion. I think the japanese style of this just means they are more conscious of the geometrics of photography.

I might be able to do the top right one......if I did any others, I'd be stuck in that position

HA! if you think those are odd positions you should see me on some days. You can find me laying in mud, in trees, in the middle of the street, just to name a few.

If it works then go for it.

Thank you Hector, because I was looking at those and thinking "I've done WAY worse than that!"

And isn't it amazing how quickly you can set exposure and composition when you're lying in the middle of the street?

My problem is that I'm 6'2" tall, and many of my subjects (pun) are shorter than me, so I either shoot looking down on them (which is that way I see life) or I have to take on one of those dorky positions (putting a knee on a chair looks less dorky). I'd be happy shooting from my perspective, but for some reason everyone says getting down to your subject's level makes for better photographs... who am I to argue?

how pointless is that? They're bracing themselves like they're in a wind tunnel or as if they're drawing a long range bow.
