Shut down problem in windows xp

About 50% of the time I try to shut down my computer I get a "program not responding" and I have to end it now. The program is "ccSvcHst" this just started about a month ago. When it does this, it takes about 5 minutes for my system to fully shut down. It is getting annoying, does anybody know what this is or how to fix it? I have tried every kind of scan and fix tool that I know of. Repaired windows files, cleaned registry, cleared restore points, defrag, ran full Norton scan. Nothing seems to work. I keep my hard drive very clean and free of clutter and bloatware. I have no clue what triggered this error.
    - Windows XP Pro w/all updates
    - Norton 360 w/all updates
    Here is my hardware
    - Motherboard - Chipset Intel i945P Dell Inc. 0FJ030
    - Pentium D 3.2 GHz W/2 cores
    Can anyone help me out?

The very first thing you should do it get rid of the Norton stuff. It has caused more problems than any other utility I know of. It's not easy to get rid of as it's uninstaller leaves running pieces of itself all over the place. Go to the Norton site and download the "real" installer.

Also, in another message, you mention that you reinstalled the OS. I expect that here, and with your MP3 player problem, you missed the install of some critical drivers. Did you get all the drivers you need, usually on a CD supplied by the computer manufacturer? Dell has specialty drivers that you need. Did you update all those drivers?

I should note that reinstalling XP is rarely needed. Too many people do that because they are still thinking about the old days of Windows 98. If something doesn't work, 9 times out of 10 its a driver, not an XP problem.

I agree, get rid of Norton.

A quick gooogle of ccSvcHst found this:
If you search the Internet, you will see that one of the most common ccSvcHst.exe-related errors is the application error. The error is given below:

    ccSvcHst.exe - Application error

The instruction at "0x059a2df" referenced memory at 0x059a2df" the memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the Program.

The error usually occurs at system startup and shutdown. At times, people notice high CPU usage by the file while they are working on their computer.

A bug in certain versions of Norton products, such as Norton 2007 is said to be the main cause of the ccSvcHst error.

I ditched Norton a couple months ago, and I love having a faster computer now.
