Vr?

Well, I *almost* bit the bullet...(almost...because I am on a waiting list). The boss gave me the go-ahead to buy the 18-200mm VR lens for my D50. I have the 18-55 kit lens now, as well as the 55-200mm. From my "amateur" perspective, both of these are very fine lenses and have produced well - I especially like the closeups I got with the 55-200 lens.

However, my biggest complaint was that I most often needed a bit more reach than the 18-55 would give me, and I underestimated the inconvenience of swapping lenses. So, after a lot of internet searching and reading numerous reviews...(but mostly it was the okay from my wife) I decided to go for the 18-200mm VR. (Or rather, put my name on the list at the local camera shop.) You all still have a few days to talk me out of it if I am making a mistake!!!

I have the 18-200 VR. It sits on my D200 most of the time. I just decided to use it for a landscape shoot at the end of the week. It doesn't have quite the same resolution as the 18-70 which is itself a bit behind the 28-70 f2.8 but it's close. Two years ago I would have used my Hasselblad to do this shoot but now I get better results from the D200.

In other words - it is at least as good as your 18-55 and 55-200, your D50 doesn't really have the resolution to do it justice, the VR feature is very useful for interiors and if you just use one lens then you will avoid getting dust on the sensor.

Your biggest challenge is getting hold of one. I reserved one at my local camera shop but after waiting six months I finally tracked one down at another shop.
