Using FX lenses on the latest DX body - ouch

I wanted to put something more "noble" and "pro" onto my D7200 rather than the humble 18-140 kit lens. In fact the D800 is my "pro" body and the 18-140 is actually the best choice for a compact lightweight travel body.

I have never bought the 17-55 f2.8 DX lens. Not enough zoom range, no VR. Finally I picked out a couple of my FX lenses - the 17-35 f2.8 and the latest 28mm f1.8 (same view as a 40mm on a DX camera - my favourite).

I tested the lenses on the D7200 against the 18-140DX. Oh dear. The 18-140 beat them hands down for resolution and overall look. No "sweet spot in the center of the FX frame".

So I just carry on with the 18-140 which is, afer all, designed for cameras like the D7200

Interesting feedback Charles. I would have thought those expensive FX lenses would have done better, especially in the center. Hmmmn.

Well I won't argue with that. It's just what I observed.

    Thanks for the pointer
