What gives with Nikon 1V1 ?

Just read this morning that the Nikon 1V1 now goes for $299.00
One year ago it sold for $899.00.
Wow, what a price drop in just one year.

It's a bit of a weird camera but it's a great performer if you need a really compact action camera - especially for video. At the previous price it was a really tough sell. But at $299 it's actually a really good deal. At least I think it is. I was really impressed with the J1 when I reviewed it last year and the V1 is better.

The V1 has been replaced by the V2. Nikon is just selling off stock. If it's a kit with a lens then it could be a good way to get into the 1 system - if you want to do that.

I think that the 1 series could eat into the sales of APS-C DSLR's over the next few years but right now I'm not interested.

I'm sure that Nikon has a huge inventory of this camera, regardless, I know how I would feel about Nikon if I was one of those that spent $899.00 just one year ago.
Also what makes no sense is that the lesser 1J1 costs $100.00 more still.
Nikon better be careful as not to alienate too many of it's customers.

You buy the camera to take pictures and it does that just as well whatever its current selling price. Consumer camera bodies are pretty much worthless after two years anyway, the second-hand market has disappeared.

What is important are the lenses for your system, that you will use generation after generation.

Very well put Charles. an important reminder for all of us.That is why I will invest in some better glass once I decide if I go back to the d7000 or wait for the upgrade.

Your'e right John, leave for now. At this low price it's not a bad deal at all.
