Quick question on the F mount.

Just to make sure, any new AI lens F mount that has an aperture ring (non G style lens I believe) will work on any older non-AI Nikon or, lets say, any old 35mm camera with a Nikon adapter, right?

I have this crazy idea. Having a new DSLR Nikon (not sure which model yet since I'm still in the idea stage), having a Nikon adapter for my 35mm Konica, and being then able to interchange lens between the two. From everything that I have read online, this seems like it may work, and if it does, that opens me up to a whole new world of possibilities since I may even be able to rent Nikon & Zeiss lens for the Nikon and the Konica.

doesn't it need to have the rabbit ears to work fully with a pre AI body?

Not sure on that one, but the Nikon F adapter to my old Konica does have this little thing sticking out the side.

Flybye - could you post some photos of the lens, camera, and adapter?

Sure. Here is the camera and the adapter. I don't have a picture of the lens because I am currently wondering how compatible new Nikon lenses are with such an adapter.

    Thanks!

So now that I can see what we're dealing with....

Older Non-AI cameras require the "rabbit ears" because that's what controlled the aperture diaphragm. the AI and AI-S lenses maintained these "ears" so that the lenses would still work on the older cameras, but they work just as well without them on the newer cameras.

So with that adapter, you should be able to use an AI, AI-S, and even D type Nikon Lenses.

I've been reading about how some of the CPU contracts may be a problem for the adapter, but once I get the adapter I'll see how it goes.

I am really liking how Nikon has kept faithful to even customers of several decades old. This is actually one of the factors in me deciding to go with Nikon. So far, I'm 90% Nikon.

So do I. In fact I have several manual focus AI and AI-S Nikkor lenses which in addition to being used on my F3, I use on my D300.
