    AF-S or AF 50mm f1.4 which one?

I have a Nikon D60 and I am in the market for a new lens. I want a 50mm lens and have been looking for a Nikkor. The only problem is that the AF is not supported by the D60 only the AF-S. This really sucks because the price difference between these 2 lenses is about $250-$300. I am pretty sure I can focus the lens manually, so that is not a really big deal for me. I am just wondering is there any other differences in these two lenses that I should know about. I would appreciate and help of advice with this, thanks fam.

That's why I bought a used D50 and a used D80, and not a new D60. Most of my lenses are just AF-D and won't focus on D60 bodies.

Yep the nifty fifty (50 mm f/1.8D AF) won't AF on the D60 because it doesn't have a focus motor in it. Haul out your manual and look at page #61 'The Electronic Rangefinder" and it will refer you to page #116. I think you'll find some useful info there.

The f/1.4 is a lot more money for just a fraction of a stop and an AF motor. When you eventually upgrade from the D60, that 50 mm f/1.8 will AF on anything above it in the lineup.

    35mm f1.8 AF-S?

Have you looked at the 35mm f1.8 AF-S DX? It's only about $200 and it will autofocus with your D60:

    - the 50mm f1.4 is the "standard available light lens" for full-frame cameras like the D3 or D700
    - the 35mm f1.8 is the "standard available light lens" for cameras with the smaller sensor like the D300 or D60

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope

This is a new lens from Nikon and is not yet readily available.

That's true. I checked my local camera store for it tonight and they didn't have it. But then they didn't have the 50mm f1.8 either. They had the 50mm f1.4 sitting on a D3X..

I reserved my 35mm f1.8 when it was announced. I've had it for a month already.
