    d80 remote alternatives

I'm looking for a remote for my d80. It seems the ML-L3 is rather limited in range and I see many that claim to have more range with this one claiming 100 meters.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-Remote-...QQcmdZViewItem

I see others with 15 to 20 for much less but I'd be willing to pay extra if this one actually works as claimed. I realize its all relevant to conditions and don't expect it to work through cement walls though that would be handy.

Does anyone have recommendations for a ML-L3 alternative and/or do you have one?
Do you see any drawbacks to the one posted?

    Re: d80 remote alternatives

Well I got the one I linked but haven't had a chance to try it yet.
I want to be able to include figures in scenes sometimes and often I'm the only one around.
Nothing from that far though but more is better...right?
Probably get my camera stolen if I was that far away.

    Re: d80 remote alternatives

I finally got around to giving it a bit of a test and it seems to work fine.
The pictures here are from about 25 ft to 100 feet.
Focus isn't good on far ones as I had it on center focus instead of area focus and it was probably focusing past me especially in the farthest one. The flowers were about 7 or 8 feet.
You set your channels to match on receiver and transmitter, make sure camera is off,(don't know what happens if it isn't), plug in the receiver, turn camera and receiver on, compose, press transmitter button half way and get a green light which is when camera focuses, then push all the way to take pic.
As I see it the advantage other than distance that it works is that you can point the reciever in any direction and take the photo from that direction whether behind, in front, or to the side.
I haven't tried to use it in bulb mode.
This was just to test it out and I know the pics are lousy.

    Re: d80 remote alternatives

The last pic was from behind the camera though close.
The receiver hangs from the camera and can be turned any direction so I can't think of a reason it would not work from behind.

    Re: d80 remote alternatives

    No!
That's nikon's remote. The one I bought on ebay was this one

    http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-REMOTE-...QQcmdZViewItem
I wanted this one because the Nikon doesnt' work from behind.

Not sure if same dealer. It came from HongKong. If you click the first link I posted in beginning of thread the item is no longer there.

    Hey Frog,

Since this post is over a year old could you let me know the brand of remote you bought and if you are still using it? Deciding if I shold go with the Nikon brand release or something else. Have heard stories both good and bad from both sides of the fence. Thanks for your help!

Hello unclebuck! It's this one, found on ebay. Can probably find it elsewhere and prices may vary on ebay, too.
