When I buy any material I want it to last. I don't want to buy something then discover 6 months later that I'm unhappy with it because it feels - like it's not a quality job. I didn't say "cheap" because I've handled the Nikon 18-55 and it feels nice, but it still has a plastic lens mount and somehow I know that this would be unsatisfactory after a while.

The D50 is fine. The only lens on your list that I think is worthy of it is the 18-70, which is the best kit lens available today.

    I agree with Franglais

I've shot a D50 with the Nikon 18-55. It get's the job done, but was not as versatile as the 18-70.

Choose the last option (D50 with the Sigma lenses), better bang for the buck IMO.

You get a zoom lens, and a telephoto lens for the price of one Nikkor lens

The kit AF-S lens (the 18-55mm) is good enough, but suffers from vignetting when used wide (~18-25mm)

Not knowing what kind of photography you're into, I'll throw another option out there...

D50, 18-55 and a 50 f1.8. I don't use fast primes too often, but when you need them they're great to have. I've never used the D50, 18-55 or 18-70, but I understand that the 18-70 is a very good lens.

I'm only recommending the 18-55 because I'm guessing that you're pretty new to this, and you might not see some of the differences between it and the 18-70 at this stage of the game (other than the obvious focal length difference).

Whatever you end up with will be capable of doing nice work.

I have to concur. That's the exact setup I have right now (D50, 18-55, 50 f1.8) and being a beginner, it's more than sufficient for me(though a telephoto would be nice too ).

And quinn, I've yet to experience any vignetting on the wide side of the 18-55.

Stillsky, I'm attaching you a pic I took with the 18-55mm lens on a D50 set at a focal length of 19mm. Take a look at the red circles on the top corners.

That's great, but it's still a problem I've yet to run into myself, and I shoot a great deal with that lens on the wide end.

Strange - sometimes lenses have slightly darkened corners (not saying it's right, just fairly common) but you should not be able to see the hood itself. Looks like that lens uses the Nikon HB-33 lens hood - is that the one you're using?

    nikon d50 + nikkor 18-70 (3.5 - 4.5) - 700 euro

That's the combo I would opt for.

I think it would be the most versatile and give you the most bang for your buck (or euro).

    My two cents worth.
