Hi everyone
Well, I just picked up a nearly mint Nikon D1 with 2 batteries and charger and low use for a mere $300. Boy is it a joy to use! The camera that started it all...and all the things that have been refined and added in newer cameras really don't seem to matter much here. Its a slightly different experience shooting with it and I have to say I really like it.
Pics to follow!
The camera really was nearly mint. Barely a mark on it, still has the 10-pin remote terminal cap, grip staying in place and all that. Works like a dream. When I mean nearly mint I mean it came in the original D1 set box, with charger, batteries, etc. in their boxes with the wrappings and manuals for each, D1 camera box with both CDs, the manual, cables, even the strap all packaged neatly, camera in the original styrofoam, and the big 'open this first' envelope with the warranty papers.
For being 6 years old and a DSLR, this is really cool.
And whoever thinks that MP is everything, this thing is pretty dern sharp! I get plenty of detail: and i'm shooting with NO in camera sharpening active, and applying a light USM in post processing. I'm shooting RAW for now, since the camera has an odd color profile, replaced for all subsequent cameras.

. I will still be able to restore it to visible light photography at a later date. Wish I had another one more beat up that I could do it to, part of me wants to keep this camera how it is.

I remember when the newspaper I was working at got D1's in. Oh the excitement we had. No more time spent in the darkroom with nasty chemicals, just shoot, plug into the computer and send!
