Help with Nikon D-40

I like to put date stamps on my pictures. I was able to do this with my Nikon Coolpix 5400. I can not find a way to put the date stamp on my pictures with my new D-40. Can it be done?

Do you actually need to have the date visible on your photos? Your D40 has what's called "EXIF data" attached to every photo you take. The EXIF data includes the time and date as well as your camera model, serial number, and settings. So the date is attached to every photo. There may be a setting for making it appear in the photos, but maybe not. Check your manual to find out. But if you just want to have the date available, it's there and can be accessed with any software that allows you to see the EXIF data.

I don't know of any DSLRs that overlay the date stamp...
