Eat and Fly

Not only do barn swallows catch their meals on the fly, they also feed their young on the wing.

This hand-off happens so fast that even with 6.5 fps, I can't capture the adult in two consecutive images at close range. Neat how the dad has his one close foot tucked in to keep from striking the baby - I'm assuming.

Kajuah & AE - I don't think I've ever posted a self-critique so I'll give my comments below I typically use a shutter speed of 1/2000s for flying swallows. But in this instance, I didn't want to use ISO 800 which would have been necessary at that speed. It's a shame because I would gladly trade noise for a sharper image.

Bad image quality but I thought I'd share it

Bad only if you're being picky !
The focus is on the plant in front of the young bird.
You can see the depth of field on the fence rail, all in front of the subject.

So the young and parent look soft.
The food, which would be the be the focal point (pun intended) is soft.
The upward wing of the parent is blurred.

Still it's a very impressive shot !
