    Woodpecker

Captured this morning with my Digital Rebel XT, using a 70-200 f/4 lens. Exposure 1/100 sec at f/4, focal length 180mm. Critiques gratefully accepted.

    Re: Woodpecker

It's an Acorn Woodpecker, a rather infrequent sight in NW Oregon. Common from western central Oregon through western central California. However, we have an estuary(sp?) out the back door, so we see a bit more of them than most folks in our area.

    Re: Woodpecker

Joe, that is a cool looking woodpecker.

The only "critique" I can offer is that the out-of-focus branch (the one in line with the truck of the tree) is distracting because of its alignment. I imagine that you did have much time to get this one, but in an ideal world, if you could have stepped a few feet to your left (but not so much that you can no longer get a profile shot of the w/p) it would have improved it.

I'm curious as to why the light levels were so low. 1/100s at f/4 is quite low - it must have been darker than what this image seems to convey. Nice job compensating for the low light.
