    A Sunday walk

I left my heavy Sigma 50-500 and tripod at home today and went for a walk with my Tamron 28-200 lens on the K20d. Nice lightweight stroll for a change and here are a few from the day...

This large curl of birch bark caught my eye...

It is warming up, I saw this little fellow running across the snow....

I liked the colour on this plant...

    and more bark...

    But, not a single bird....
    ;)

I can't believe that spider was on snow! Wow, that's a sight not often seen.

I'd run if I was barefoot on snow, too.
    Nice shots, really.
    Are you making a canoe?

Shot 4 is definitely postcard material. Super nice.
What is that above the pealing bark in shot 1? Is that an ear and head I see?
Sorry, my eyes aren't what they use to be.

I see what you mean, I sure didn't see anything when I took that shot... I'll have to have a look at the raw version when I get home. You've got me wondering if its an optical illusion or if something was there.

    Bob,

Here is a crop from the raw shot. It is simply an interesting illusion where a small curl of bark has given the shape of ears and a head, while a branch above it suggests the back of a small animal.

You've got good eyes, I totally missed that.

Hi Scott, Thanks for looking into that for me. That is wild.
When I'm out in the field I am looking so hard, my mind starts playing tricks on me.
I start seeing imaginary creatures everywhere.

We don't have Birch trees in Colorado. They sure are beautiful.
