    western ribbon snake

Here's a western ribbon snake, thamnophis proximus. Found a few of these during my southern illinois excursion, and most of them were beat-up and refused to pose for me. This one happened to be the biggest and prettiest, and it posed nicely. How often does THAT happen?? The western ribbon is easily distinguished from garter snakes by the bright white pre-occular marking, among other things.

    C+C always welcome.

    Erik.

Now that is a very striking looking ribbon snake indeed!

That's a great image for field guide type stuff too!
