    Todays birds

It seems like each day brings a different group of birds around, the day before yesterday it was titmice, yesterday it was bluejays, today there were a bunch of doves and a few downy w/p's. Anyway, here are a few from today...

Don't know why but I like this little guy... he couldn't have been over 4 inches long

    couple of nuthatches...

I decided to take the rest of the week off because the weather, I'll try not to over due posting pics, lol.

Another one from today. I don't know how I got this shot to look like this but I wish I could do it every time. It's straight from my camera with no p/p except for the crop and re-size, it was taken using manuAl focus (lol).

I'm trying different sigs before I turn one into a brush, I think I like the plain & simple more.

Ok so Manuel has taken a trip back south... who's this Al guy now =P

Nice capture on that last one. Perfectly focused and the DOF is perfect too. Nice work.

Nice work Copy. What is that little bird above the nuthatches? i to think its great!

My camera has been made redundant over the past weeks due to the lousy weather and lack of wildlife, but we had SNOW! last night and have been out playing before it disappears (as it is already)! So will post later.

Love the Nuthatches! Good call taking the week off. CNN is reporting 6 feet of snow (in your area?). Probably makes getting anywhere near impossible unless you have a snowmobile that you can drive out of a second story window.

Anyway, hope you continue to shoot and post during your vacation. I'm sure you'll have snow on the ground until, what, May?

    Re: Todays birds

Thank you Jaedon, Bev, and Loupey.

Bev, that little bird is a juvenile Downy woodpecker (Picoides pubescens), when it is an adult it will have a red patch on the back of his head like the Hairy woodpecker (Picoides villosus) in the second image below. The difference's between the two are, the downy is smaller with a shorter beak and with black bars on its white tail feathers, which the hairy woodpecker does not have.

Another shot of the Downy from yesterday...

And a Hairy from yesterday sharing some food with a Starling, notice the longer beak and missing black bars on the tail feathers...

Bev & Loupey, I just finished shoveling about 4 feet of snow off 1/4th of my roof, my neck hurts, my back hurts, and I feel ten years older than I did when I woke up this morning I may have to take another week off to recover... and take more pictures

Loupey, the year I moved back here the city had a snow pile that lasted from one winter to the next... If you see Oswego, NY on the national news (it has been) that's where I live, we've had 6 to 7 feet of snow this week.

Well 6 inches or 6 feet of snow it sure hasn't effected the quality of images your posting. Nice job on all these.

We only had about 6 or 8 inches of snow but after shoveling the side walk I know what you mean about feeling 10 years older.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thank you Old Timer, the light reflecting off the snow can make for some interesting pictures so it isn't too bad

:blush2: It seems I was mistaking (again), for some reason I was under the impression that these w/p's did not get the red head feathers until they reached adulthood

The males have the red head feathers which the females do not.
