Very Close Encounter with a Heron
Hello all, been a while since I posted anything but its been busy. I managed to get some interesting nature shots here and there though.
I wanted to share these especially - a few days ago my mom saw a Great Blue Heron standing at the edge of our backyard. We have a meadow and creek in back of the yard so I see them now and then there but never in the yard so this was a surprise!
I grabbed my camera and walked slowly across the porch and into the yard and was able to get alot of shots. It was evening and starting to get dark out so I used flash and was able to get fairly close to the bird. He stood there for about 15 minutes and then turned around and took off. I was pleased to get one shot of him with wings extended. I'm not sure what he found so interesting in our yard but he stood gazing around at it for quite a while.

Re: Very Close Encounter with a Heron
That is so neat to have something like that so close to your house, I have to drive 6 miles down the road:wink: Thanks for sharing, those were nice pictures.

Gorgious shots.
There are lots of wetlands in my town so I see those everywhere. I haven had a chance to shoot one yet.
Re: Very Close Encounter with a Heron
Cool shots. I've never seen such colorful foliage in a heron photo before.

Beautiful series Quetzal, especially like #2.

Thanks for the compliments all :)
Re: Very Close Encounter with a Heron
If you have a pond, file the fish as disposable :)
Re: Very Close Encounter with a Heron
Great job capturing the moment
Perhaps it was after frogs or toads. In my area, there are a lot of grasshoppers and cicadas. Perhaps they are opportunistic feeders too.
Re: Very Close Encounter with a Heron
Well, I have a small pond near the house but there aren't any fish in it. I had considered putting some in already but now that may not be such a good idea! :p
Loupey, I have seen toads in my yard occasionally so it could be just that it saw something interesting to eat.
Thanks for looking all!
