Top 10 Finalist in Canon's National Parks Contest!

    Hi All,

You may remember this image from earlier this year. I was just notified that it is a top 10 finalist in Canon's National Parks Contest. The top 10 will be put up for public to vote between Oct 28th and Nov 24th at http://www.usa.canon.com/parks. This was captured at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, and is entitled "Reflections of a White Morph". It is a rare White Morph Reddish Egret. The prize packages for the top winners are pretty sweet, so hopefully it will work out! Wish me luck, and please vote

Re: Top 10 Finalist in Canon's National Parks Contest!

Thanks for the encouraging words all. All I know at this point is that I will win at least a $400.00 point-and-shoot for sure (The six honorable mentions of the top 10 win that), but the top 4 prizes are really nice! The grand prize is all expense paid week for 2 to any National Park, a 5d + 24-135 f/4L, and a PixmaPro 9500 Printer, First prize is the gear without the trip, 2nd is a 50D plus the "L" lens and printer, and 3rd is the XSi plus kit lens and the printer.

Needless to say, I'd love to place somewhere in the top 3, but I'm already thrilled to just be in the top 10. It's always an honor when someone appreciates your work, and I think you all know how hard I work at it.

I have not seen the other finalists work yet, but I have no doubt they will be exceptional images. This is a big competition.

Wow, that moth is good, too! A different kind of pic to Bob's, I'd say. Personally I don't think they should be competing under the same category

Good luck to both of you !!

Congrats and good luck to both of you! Beautiful image there Bob.

BTW, I see that Canon sponsors different photo contests. Do the entries in these contests have to be taken with Canon equipment or are they open to us lowly Nikon users too?

I don't think there's anything in the rules about equipment manufacturer. Only problem for you Nikonians is that you'd have to cross over if you won

The prizes are, of course, all Canon.

This comment reminded me of something I stumbled across a while back. I was looking through an issue of Outdoor Photographer and came across a photo that had placed in one of their contests. It told who the photographer was and the equipment used to take the photo. I knew I had seen the photo before and with a little research, I found that very photo in a Canon add in another magazine. According to the info about the photo in Outdoor Photographer, the image was created with a Nikon.

Again, congratulations and best of luck Bob, and the same to you too Broken Perfection.

Lucky for you I didn't enter my images

Awesome image Bob and if you win a non full frame camera, I will gladly take it an use it for you. The economy squashed my dreams of updating my dinosaur 1D:mad2:

Joking about the camera body, but the rest is true.

LOL - I feel your pain there Paul! I'm trying to save my meager stock photo sales up for a replacement body for my 1DsMII. Even though it's only a couple years old, it has had a rough life, and I don't expect it will last much longer without an overhaul. The Florida environment is not kind to photo gear...and my gear spends a LOT of time in it. Would love to relegate it to a backup role. It has 500,000+ frames through it, so the shutter should be going out any time now. I am, however, only at 4500 frames on my 40D. Needless to say, it would be huge to win either the 5D (MII?) or the 50D as part of this contest. The printer would be nice too, as I don't even have one!

I'm lookng forward to seeing the rest of the entries. I'm sure they'll be great as well.

    Hey all,

Giving this thread a bump. The voting has begun!

As I suspected, the other 9 finalists are excellent! I'm the only Avian photographer in the bunch, as most are scenic. Just incredible images, though!

Wish me luck - and thanks!
