The grasshopper scene was quite exciting. Ended up shooting 120+ RAW files of it from a variety of angles. Posted a few different shots of him in the Viewfinder Forum.

Loupey, do you find that the IS helps any while using the tubes? I understand that it will not be 100% effective at high magnification, but does it help at all?

Have you tried shooting sports with it, and do you have any examples /thoughts on the lens for that use? The sports will be during daylight hours and outdoors, mostly baseball. My main concern is whether the f/4 will leave too much of the BG in focus, making the player(s) blend into it too much.

Part 1: the IS is flawless with one or two tubes on the 300mm. The IS has stuttered a few times when I use all three tubes at the same time. By "stuttering", I mean a momentary half second when the IS appears to turn off. Nothing serious. The IS is one of the main reasons why I use this lens (and why I still haven't used my 180mm macro) for macros. I practically don't even use a monopod anymore - all handheld - either with the 2x or tubes. My total field gear bag has now been reduced to a fanny pack with tubes, 2x, extra memory cards, and extra battery.

Part 2: I've used the 300mm (with and without 2x) for sports. But I have to admit - as much as I'm an anti-zoom guy - I find the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS to be far more useful for sports. The 70-200 along with the 2x is a powerful combo for outdoor sports. The 300mm tends to be too powerful. I know, this means you need to buy more than 1 lens
