Storm pictures
In the spirit of John's sharing of mattb's panoramic photo on the FB page, here are a couple of pics I took this evening.
Typical of this time of year, moist air comes in from the Gulf and allo the water falls out of the sky as soon as it gets over land. big clouds, heavy rain over very small areas. When they say, "Scattered showers, some locally heavy," this is what they mean. Note the clear blue sky visible higher up!

This was the view when I turned 180 degrees, cloud forming as it gets over the warmer land. I'm less than half a mile from the Gulf where I'm standing.

EDIT: Wow! Picasaweb took this picture and threw up on it! This is NOTHING like the image I uploaded to Picasaweb! Let me attach the file from my PC and see what happens:

Yeah, Google made some decisions that weren't mine in that image, didn't they? The second one is the same file I uploaded to them!

Feel free to post your own storm pics. I looked for a thread of such but didn't find one. Maybe this can be an ongoing project.

Re: Storm pictures
Hey, nice storms! I love storm photos.
Crazy what happened to that photo on Picasaweb! It almost doesn't look like the same shot.
Here's another of mine from the day before I took the panoramic John shared.
I processed it with Nik Silver Efx Pro which really brings out some nice sky detail.

Re: Storm pictures
Very clear and nicely clicked pics indeed.

Re: Storm pictures
Wow great pics indeed presenting everything very clear.

Re: Storm pictures
How about one from the inside looking out? Headed home in pouring rain, but the western sky was clear! Cell pic, a little too much dynamic range for the phone, but....

Re: Storm pictures
Thanks for starting this thread, wfooshee. It looks like it's taken on a life of its own. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to add a couple of my own storm photos now :)

These are before an after photos of a storm approaching Antelope Island, over the Great Salt Lake. I thought I was going to get seriously pummeled when I saw this headed my direction but it passed mostly to the south and the only effects were a lot of wind and a little bit of spitting rain on my windshield. The photos were taken with my Canon T4i / 650D and the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 I just reviewed. It's a hell of a lens. Here's the lens review for anyone who's interested:

I hope this thread keeps going with lots more storm photos. It's a great subject!

One of those tiny cells rolling in from the Gulf:

Camp Helen State Park, Florida
D7000, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 1/500 @ f:7.1, ISO 100
Same day, another cell a few miles west:

Hwy 331 at Choctawhatchee Bay
D7000, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 1/500 @ f:6.3, ISO 100
I like this one better of the cloud, but I don't like the highway and traffic in the shot....

Same location and camera info as previous
If I may be permitted a small indulgence, I've been playing with B&W conversion of a lot of my shots lately. (Another forum I'm on had a pretend-you're-Ansel-Adams project and now I can't stop trying.) So I repeat the last two images here, first with a simple saturation to zero, then with a more complex conversion with reduced blue and cyan for sky darkening, plus increased yellow and green for foliage enhancement. Unfortunately, with Photoshop's B&W conversion, carrying those sliders too far gets some pixelizing.... :(

A great picture in color, but even better in black and white.

I prefer the colorful photos to the black and white ones.

Here's a panorama from the same outing.
I liked how it was stormy on one side and sunny on the other!
